Essay Requirements

  •   All essays should be typed - even first drafts.

  • All essays should be in font size 12pt
  • All essays should be on A4 paper.
  •   Essays should be double spaced.

  • Essays of more than one page should have page numbering
  • The first page of your work should be a title page on which you indicate your name, your Student ID number, your e-mail address, your  course, your section number, the date, the task description provided by your teacher, which draft of the task you are submitting, a word count and finally your teacher’s name and department. (A sample title Page is provided).
  • All essays should be accompanied by any preparatory work that you have done before writing this essay e.g. plan/notes.   The plans/notes don’t need to be typed.

  • All essays should be accompanied by a reference list. Some of these reference lists may only contain one item but they are good practice for you.
  • When handing in later drafts make sure that you include all previous drafts and plans even if your teacher has already seen them.
  • Even if your essay is short and fits on one page, remember that you will also include a title page, as described above, so make sure that all pages are bound together.  The easiest way for you to do this is to use a plastic wallet as it will keep your work together, clean and will be easily filed later when you need to submit your portfolio.
  • Remember to hand in all work by the deadlines specified by your teacher.   Otherwise you will be penalized in accordance with the detailed rules provided in your syllabus.
  • Before handing in each piece of work, check that you have fulfilled all the requirements on this list.
