Prof. Attila Gursoy is a professor in the Computer Engineering Department, 
Koc University, Istanbul, Turkey. He received the BS degree from Middle East Technical 
University, Ankara, Turkey, the MS degree from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, both 
in Computer Engineering in 1986 and 1988. He received the PhD degree from 
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Computer Science in 1994. 
He was a TUBITAK scholar during his PhD studies.  He worked in Theoretical Biophysics Group 
in Beckman Institute, University of Illinois as a postdoctoral research associate where 
Dr. Gursoy contributed significantly to the development of a parallel molecular dynamics 
simulation program NAMD. Dr. Gursoy worked in Bilkent University as an assistant professor, 
and since 2002, Dr. Gursoy is with Computer Engineering Department of Koc University. 
Dr. Gursoy research is in the area of parallel/distributed computing, high performance 
computational biology, and protein bioinformatics. Dr. Gursoy has published articles in 
prestigious journals such as Bioinformatics, Journal of Parallel and Distributed Systems, 
Journal of Computational Biology, Journal of Computational Physics, Journal of Supercomputing, 
Nucleic Acids Research, Protein: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, and PLOS Computational Biology.
