Sep. 24 Lectures are held on Monday and Wednesdays 15:30-16:45 in SCI-129.
Oct. 05 Quiz 1 will be held on Monday Oct. 12 at 17:00 in SCI-129.
Oct. 06 PSs will be held on Fridays 11:00-12:15 in SCI-129.
Oct. 07 There will be an extra lecture during PS1 (Friday Oct. 09 at 11:00-12:15). The attendance taken in this lecture will count towards the class attendance not the PS attendance. There will  be a PS during the class time (15:30-16:45) on Oct. 19 in SCI-129.

Quiz 1 will cover the material of lectures 1-5 and the corresponding discussion from the textbook. See the Lecture Contents. In particular, you will be asked to reproduce important definitions, prove simple facts that have been left as exercises in the lectures, and work out relevant problems that would test your knowledge of sets, relations, functions, and the linear algebra.

Students interested in boosting their background on linear algebra can consult the books: "Linear Algebra Done Right," by Sheldon Axler (Springer, 1997) or "Linear Algebra: An Introduction to Abstract Mathematics," by Robert J. Valenza (Springer, 1993).

Oct. 15 There will be no PS or lectures on Friday Oct. 16.

Quiz 2 will be held on Wednesday Oct. 21 at 15:30 in SCI-129. It covers the material of lectures 5-7 and the corresponding discussion from the textbook. See the Lecture Contents. In particular, you will be asked to reproduce important definitions, prove simple facts that have been left as exercises in the lectures, and work out the relevant problems.

The Quiz 1 and 2 problems have been posted as Hanouts.

Nov. 04 Midterm Exam 1 has been postponed to Monday Nov. 09 at 15:30-17:00 in SCI-129. It will cover the material of lectures 1-11 and the corresponding discussion from the textbook and the book by Bishop and Goldberg. See the Lecture Contents. In particular, you will be asked to reproduce important definitions, prove simple facts that have been left as exercises in the lectures, and work out the relevant problems.

There will be an extra lecture on Friday, Nov. 06 at 11:00 in SCI-129 (instead of the PS).

Nov. 13 Midterm Exam 1 problems have been posted as Hanouts.

Midterm Exam 1 grades have been posted in KUAIS. You may view your exam paper by contacting Neslihan Oflaz during the next week (16-20 November). If you have any objections you must make them in writing and pass them to Neslihan. She will collect all the objections and we will review your exam papers to correct any errors.

Nov. 16 Quiz 3 will be held on Friday Nov. 20 at 11:00 in SCI-129. It covers the material of lectures 12-14 and the corresponding discussion from the textbook and other references. See the Lecture Contents. In particular, you will be asked to reproduce important definitions, prove simple facts that have been left as exercises in the lectures, and work out the relevant problems.
Nov. 25 A PDF of Chapter 7 of the book by Tu which is on Quotient Spaces has been posted as Hanouts.

Quiz 4 will be held on Friday Dec. 04 at 11:00 in SCI-129. It will cover the material of lectures 15-16 and the corresponding discussion from the textbook and other references. See the Lecture Contents. In particular, you will be asked to reproduce important definitions, prove simple facts that have been left as exercises in the lectures, and work out the relevant problems.

Dec. 03 PDFs of Chapters 2, 7 and 8 of the book by Tu have been sent to you by e-mail. You are advised to study their relevant parts for the upcoming quiz and midterm exam.
Dec. 07 Midterm Exam 2 will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 15:30-17:00 in SCI-129. It will cover the material of lectures 12-19 and the corresponding discussion from the textbook and the supplementary ready material listed  in the link Lecture Contents. In particular, you will be asked to reproduce important definitions, prove simple facts that have been left as exercises in the lectures, and work out the relevant problems. For further information about this exam see Midterm Exam 2.

The PS of the week of Dec. 14 will be held on Monday, Dec. 14 at 15:30-17:00 in SCI-129 instead of the Friday Dec. 18.

Dec. 09 There will be no class on Monday Dec. 21. Also the PS on Friday Dec. 25 will be swapped with the lecture on Monday Dec. 28,  i.e., there will be a lecture during the PS time (11:00-12:15) on Dec. 25 and there will be a PS during the class time (15:30-16:45) on Monday Dec. 28. As usual all the classes and PSs are held in SCI-129.
Dec. 25 Copies of the parts of the books by Tu and Bishop-Goldberg that are related to the material covered in Lectures 20 and 21 will be distributed in the PS to be held on Monday, December 28  (SCI-129, 15:30-16:45) .
Jan. 03 Quiz 5 will be held on Friday Jan. 08 at 11:00 in SCI-129. It will cover the material of lectures 20-24 and the corresponding discussion from the ready material listed  in the link Lecture Contents. In particular, you will be asked to reproduce important definitions, prove simple facts that have been left as exercises in the lectures, and work out the relevant problems.

Final Exam will be held on Monday, Jan. 18 at 12:00-15:00 in SCI-Z07. It will cover the material of lectures 1-24 and the corresponding discussion from the textbook and the supplementary ready material listed  in the link Lecture Contents.
