The venue of the workshop has been chosen as
Çeşme on the
most westerly tip of the Karaburun peninsula, which marks
the midpoint of the Aegean coastline of Turkey.
Çeşme is a Turkish word for fountain. The name comes from
the many springs that were built in the area during the 18th
and 19th centuries. Çeşme has a long
history which is evident from the Genoese Castle dating from the 14th century. Next to the castle is the
Ottoman caravanserai
(kervansaray) added in the 16th century.
Located
70 km west of Çeşme
is
İzmir, Turkey's 3rd
largest city. Çeşme and its surroundings are
generously endowed with natural hot and ice cold springs, countless coves,
white sandy beaches, crystal clear seawater, incredible mastic trees, and many
historical gems of the Archaic Age. The ever blowing north winds
bestowed Çeşme its reputation as the windsurfers'
dreamland.
The warm and sunny summer season in
Çeşme lasts from March to November.
İmbat, the famous breeze
blowing off
the Aegean Sea keeps
the air cool on even the hottest summer days.
From November to March the weather would be mild
with rainshowers. Even during this period, the average seawater
temperature is 18.5° Grad Celcius.
It
is not all too difficult to understand why Çeşme offers so many
opportunities for all kinds of watersports.
