Comm 101

Presentation Instructions

The oral component of your grade, accounting for 10% of your overall grade will consist of you giving a presentation in front of your classmates. Your presentation must be in English. It should be between 7 and 10 minutes in length. You should e-mail your instructor your choice of topic by 25th November at 12 noon. See below for ideas.

Subject Matter

The subject of your presentation will be a specific feature of the Internet that you are particularly interested in. You need to do research on it and present your findings orally, in your own words. Just as in writing, you must acknowledge when you are using someone else's ideas and language and so printing off information from a website and then just reading it out is not acceptable.

Topics could include

Podcasts Search Engines

Blogs Education Spam
Video Feeds Gaming Encryption
Photograph and other file hosting Shopping

etc. etc. etc.

Each student in the class needs to choose a different topic and so as soon as you find your topic you should send an e-mail to your instructor to ensure that that topic is reserved for you. As students inform their instructor of their chosen topic, the topics will be recorded in the table below. So, before you submit your topic, check that it has not already been taken. Please note that each student in a particular class must choose a topic that is different to their other classmates. However, you may choose a topic that a student in another class has taken. So, if you are having trouble thinking of something, have a look at what other students are doing in other classes and you might be inspired.

General Comments

 * As with all your written work, the “text” (words/language) of your podcast must be yours. Obviously you will need to have consulted sources to find out about your topic but to make the podcast yours, you should have summarized/paraphrased/synthesised your sources just as in your writing. As with all other tasks, if your work is plagiarized, you get a grade of 0.
