Mission Statement

The Center for Research on Globalization and Democratic Governance (GLODEM) was established at Koç  University, Istanbul/Turkey in September 2004. As the problems and dangers as well as opportunities facing  our world are becoming more and more global in nature, there is a need for comprehensive and critical thinking on the processes of globalization and their impacts on the regional, national and local dimensions of social interactions. The Center provides a venue for such thinking, and in doing so aims at promoting methodological and analytical creativity and excellence. The Center encourages comparative and multidisciplinary research on globalization and democratic governance, and serves as an intellectual platform for dialogue between academic and research scholars.

The GLODEM aims to

  • Undertake high-quality research, foster public discussion, and enhance local and international linkages within and beyond Turkey;
  • Advance and apply knowledge about globalization and democratic governance;
  • Build Koç's reputation for expertise and advice pertaining to globalization and democratic governance based on its academic strength, independence and impartiality;
  • Serve broader audience by dealing with questions of long term strategy and policy about the various dimensions of globalization and democratic governance through research publications, conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Coordinator: Prof. Fuat Keyman
