Dr. Urey received the BS degree from Middle
East Technical University, Ankara, in 1992, and MS and Ph.D. degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1996
and in 1997, all in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Bilkent University-Ankara and Georgia Tech Research Institute-
He published 35 journal papers and more than 80 international conference papers, 7 edited books, 2 book chapters, and has more than 20 issued and several pending patents. His research interests are in the area of optical MEMS, micro-optics and optical system design, 2D/3D display and imaging systems, and biosensors. He is a member of SPIE, IEEE, and OSA, and the vice-chair of the IEEE-LEOS Turkey chapter.
He received the TÜBİTAK-Encouragement Award in 2009, Outstanding Young Scientist (TÜBA-GEBİP) award from the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in 2007 and Werner Von Siemens Excellence award in 2006 for outstanding research performance at Koç University, a special award from Microvision Inc. for contributions to the development of Scanning Technologies in 2008, and JCI (Junior Commerce International) Top Outstanding Young Person Award in Science and Technology category in 2008.

Positions Available at OML:
• Post-Doctoral Position in MEMS: Background in MEMS fabrication, design, and hands-on experience with testing of electro-mechanical systems, and strong publication record.
• Post-Doctoral Position in 3D Displays: Background in optical system design, micro-optics, and strong publication record.
• Several positions available for MS and PhD students (includes Full Tuition Waiver, Salary, Accommodation, and other benefits): Projects are externally funded and in the areas of MEMS, NEMS, and micro-optics. A furnished room in Graduate student apartments and a salary of ~$1,000 (sufficient for comfortable living in Istanbul) is provided for PhD students. Courses are in English. Requirements: Application form, TOEFL and GRE scores, transcript, 2 references (LES score for Turkish citizens).
