Textbook
W. E. Boyce , R. C. DiPrima and D.B.
Meade, Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems,
11th Edition (John Wiley & Sons, New York);
Course Content First-order Differential Equations, Second-order
Linear Differential Equations, Series Solutions, Laplace Transform,
Systems of First-Order Linear Equations, PDE's and Fourier Series. There
might be some variations depending on the time constraints.
Grades
You will be held responsible for all information that is
discussed during lecture, PS and in the homework. There will be three
components of the final letter grade.
%15 HW-Quizes
%35 Midterm Exam
%50 Final Exam
There might be some extra credits for the tasks that will be explained in lectures.
Homeworks and HW-Quizes
There will be weekly homework assignments which are an
important component of this class. Homework assignments will not be
collected or graded. However there will be several HW-quizes
(these are short quizes that consists of one or more questions from the
previous homework assignments). There won't be any make-ups for the
HW-quizes. However your lowest quiz score will be dropped before
averaging, therefore, you can miss one quiz without affecting your
score. If a HW-quiz is scheduled for the week, you can take only one
quiz in that week in your section.
Midterm and Final Exams There will be a midterm exam and a final exam. Times and coverage will be announced on this page. The Final Exam is
cumulative. Also check the class website for the location and date/time
of the exams.
Note: If you miss the midterm exam (after providing
necessary documentation), then your final exam score will be used as
your missing midterm score. Make-up for the final exam will be
given only if you have a documented valid excuse accepted by the Dean’s
office (the date/location of the make is indicated in the KU Academic
Calendar).
Academic Honesty
Students and faculty adhere to the principles of academic honesty at Koç University. Read all sections of Student Code of Conduct including academic dishonesty such as cheating, plagiarism and their consequences.
