Title:  Solving Diophantine Equations via Modular Approach

Abstract: Solving Diophantine equations is one of biggest problems in number theory. In this talk we will introduce modular forms/curves, a main object in number theory and arithmetic geometry and see how they are used to solve some famous Diophantine equations such as Fermat equation.

Speaker's Brief Biography: The speaker got her PhD in mathematics from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before joining Bogazici University, she was a postdoc at University of Texas at Austin during 2011-2014 and EPDI Fellow at Max Planck Institute for Mathematics and IHES during 2010-2011. Her research mostly concerns algebraic number theory and arithmetic geometry.
