Math-Sci Seminar Speaker: Dr. Rüdiger-A. Eichel, Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany Title: History on Magnetic Resonance: exploring the 'world of magnetic resonance' - concepts, benchmarks, historical milestones, examples of applications and future trends (ATTENTION TO UNUSUAL TIME, DAY AND PLACE) Date: Fri 13 Nov, 2006 Time: 14:00 Place: Science Building, Room Z24 Abstract: Magnetic resonance spectroscopic tools are widely used from materials to life science applications. Whereas Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) has become a standard tool for chemical analysis of 'bulk' compounds, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) is more dedicated to study magnetically isolated functional centers either in molecules or in solids. An introduction into the underlying concepts of EPR, its benchmarks as compared to NMR, as well as some historical milestones and examples of applications are given. Finally three directions for future trends in EPR are proposed. Please visit http://home.ku.edu.tr/~sci-math for a schedule of upcoming Science -Math seminars at Koc University.
