Speaker: Prof. A. Baha Balantekin, Eugene P. Wigner Professor of Physics, University of Wisconsin-Madison Title: Supernovae and the origin of elements Date: Mon 22 May, 2006 (no seminar on Thursday this week) Time: 17:00 Place: Science Building, Room Z42 Abstract: Recent U.S. National Academy of Sciences Report "Connecting Quarks with the Cosmos: Eleven Science Questions For the New Century" picked the origin of elements heavier that iron as one of the unsolved problems of modern science. In this talk the properties of supernovae are outlined and the role of supernovae and neutrinos in forming such elements will be explored.
