Research efforts with Silicon Micromarbles are published in Optics and Photonics News Magazine

This being the “photonics century” in general, and the “microphotonics century” in special, it is only fair that we moved on to silicon micromarbles, which are pleasantly friendly to electrons as well as photons. By electrically controlling the size and the refractive index of these spherical micromarvels, microphotonic engineers should be able to spectrally shift the MDR’s, and therefore manipulate light creation, transmission and detection in three dimensional volumetric lightwave circuits (VLC’s).

Koç University's efforts in Optics and Photonics are published in Optics and Photonics News Magazine

The Microphotonics Research Laboratory focuses on silicon photonics, microcavity QED, and laser spectroscopy. We are currently working on developing silicon microsphere based near-infrared optoelectronic devices such as filters, modulators, and detectors. Silicon microspheres combine the resonant photonic properties of the spherical microcavity with the semiconducting electronic properties of the silicon, and are ideal building blocks for 3D volumetric lightwave circuits (VLC’s).
