What
is Model United Nations?
Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation
of multi-lateral diplomacy, which brings together students and diploamts
from all around the world to debate over pressing global issues. Each
year, hundreds of university students gather in Model United Nations conferences,
where they negotiate issues ranging from international terrorism to climate
control. Students attend the commitees as representatives of a country
whose interests they are required to protect and pursue as they struggle
to hammer out agreements in their respective commitees. In the past, commitees
have included agencies and deliberative bodies of the United Nations,
the European Union, the International Monetary Fund, and various other
organizations.

When
was KoçMUN founded?
Koç MUN Club was founded in the
1996-1997 Academic Year with the efforts of students who were willing
to prepare for and participate at international MUN conferences all over
the globe. In the following years the club members have fulfilled this
aim by attending to several conferences worldwide. The club has further
enlarged its scope of activities to include preparing university wide
mock conferences and chairing in several international conferences.

What
is the aim of KoçMUN?
Koç MUN Club is working to enhance
students interest and knowledge into United Nations, its relative organizations
and bodies, and the way these institutions function. Through learning
about UN, Model United Nations club aim at increasing students awareness
about important world affairs and international relations. Working in
a formal debate form, MUN serves to improve students fluency in English
and skills in debating. Finally, with attending conferences abroad and
exposure to foreign students MUN activities add to students knowledge
about foreign cultures.

Where
do the MUN conferences take place?
MUN conferences can and do take
place anywhere in the world. The biggest Model United Nations Conference
outside the U.S., for example, took place in Istanbul, Turkey with cooperative
efforts of KoçMUN and Harvard University WorldMUN.
