Overview

The current research activities of MVGL group specialize on several aspects of multimedia signal processing and networking, including digital video, vision, speech, 3D computer graphics, multimedia integration, and multimedia networking.

MVGL is equipped for research in vision, graphics, image, video, speech and audio processing. Computer facilities include a high-end acquisition computer (MAC), a networked set of high end PCs and UNIX workstations (Sun SPARCs) and various other peripherals for high resolution multimedia I/O.

MVGL is a partner of the European SIMILAR Network of Excellence on "Human-Machine Interface".

KOC 3DLAB hosts various equipment to capture and display 3D video content. For 3D video acquisition, we have an 8 camera multi-view video capture system and a Bumblebee stereo camera rig. For 3D display, we have a large silver screen projection system with 2 synchronized projectors, where one projector employs a vertical polarization filter and the other employs a horizontal polarization filter. This system requires viewers to wear special glasses with similar polarization filters. In addition, we host a 17 inch lenticular sheet which supports displaying 8 views without any glasses, and a Sharp 3D laptop which supports auto-stereoscopic display.
