Functions of several variables: partial derivatives, chain rule, directional derivative, extreme values. Multiple integrals. Vector calculus: Greens, Stokes and divergence theorems Evaluation method: Students progress will be evaluated according to their performance in, the midterm and final exams. There will be two midterm exams. The Midterm Exam 1 and 2 will be held during the weeks of October 27 and December 22, respectively. The midterm exams will cover the material not covered in the earlier exams. The final exam will be a more comprehensive exam covering all the subjects of the course. The contribution of the midterm and final exams are as follows, midterm exams 25% each, final exam 45%. Attendance: Students are required to attend all the lectures and PSs, faculty will take attendance randomly and this contributes 5% to your grade. Policy for Make-Up Exams: There will be no make-up exam for the midterm exams. If a student misses one or more midterm exam (s) and has a valid medical report or an excuse accepted by the Dean’s office, his or her score in the final exam will be substituted for the grade of the exam (s) that is (are) missed. Otherwise, a zero will be entered as the grade for the corresponding exam (s). Under the same conditions, a make-up exam will be given to those who miss the final exam. Policy for Auditing Students: In order to get an AU in this course a student should attend a minimum of 20 lectures. To determine this, the auditing student (s) should contact the instructor at the end of each class and ask to sign a special attendance sheet. Academic Dishonesty: If a student is caught cheating in an exam, (s)he will be punished according to the YÖK regulations. These consist of one or two semesters of prohibition from attending the university. |
